I am interested in all forms of capillary electrophoresis. August Blackburn (below) and I are working on an improved system for the analysis of protein digests, to complement the traditional analysis by HPLC. We envision a system in which the area of an electrophoresing peptide peak is directly proportional to its chemical amount (moles). Currently the area of the peak is not proportional to its chemical amount, either in CE or HPLC. To accomplish this goal, we hope to employ a novel method of chromophoric labelling. We are currently working on the tryptic maps of small proteins as test models. Apomyoglobin has been used as a model in many protein projects, and Leptin is an object of great interest in metabolic research. Last year, Daniel Horrell (below) presented a poster in connection with the same work (Texas Academy of Sciences Poster "Tryptic Mapping by Capillary Electrophoresis" Presented at the 107th annual meeting, March 5,6 Kerrville, TX ).
